Suspension Equipment for Hoist Ropes - Thimble Type Cappels
The standard supply of thimble cappel is as shown below and within reason the eye dimensions can be modified to suit any particular requirement. If required a hard rubber shock absorber can be fitted to reduce the effects of high-energy vibration which can cause fatigue failure in ropes.
Standard thimble cappel sizes are for ropes from 16 mm (5/8”) to 54 mm (2 1/8”) but thimble cappels for ropes of greater diameter can be supplied.
The thimble cappel side plates and main pin are made from 1.5% manganese steel to BS 2772, Part 2, 1989, in the hardened and tempered condition. The thimble wedge, rope grip and clamps are of mild steel to BS 4360: 1979 Grade 43A and in the normalised condition.
All RBD thimble cappels are proof load tested to 2.5 times the safe working load and subjected to magnetic crack detection. Ultrasonic tests can be carried out if required.
Where conditions warrant we can apply zinc as a protective coating.
