Suspension Equipment for Hoist Ropes - Detaching Hooks
Reliance Barker Davies detaching hooks may be fitted with any form of coupling at the upper and lower attachment points. Although forged shackles may be supplied if required, it is considered that the imperfections inherent in hand forged components such as shackles tend to produce non-linear loading and may cause unequal stresses in the plate work of the hook. It is preferable that plate links, or better still, solid machined chaseblocks are used with detaching hooks to ensure balanced loading on all components.
The sizes shown in the tables below are our standard range and are suitable for almost any application.
The inner plates of the hooks being the only load bearing plates are manufactured from 1.5% manganese steel to BS 2772, Part 2, 1989, in hardened and tempered condition. The centre or hinge pin is also in this material and condition. The outer plates, drop and spacer pins, are in mild steel to BS 4360: 1979, in the as rolled condition. The shear bolt is copper. All hooks are proof loaded tested to 2.5 times the safe working load and subject to magnetic crack detection. Ultrasonic tests can also be carried out if required.
