Suspension & Tensioning of Guide Ropes

There are two conventional methods of guide rope tensioning: by weight loading or using spring tensioners.

By Weight Loading

IIn the headframe spherically seated SS/WF/NU Type glands are mounted on the steel section supports to allow independent adjustment for the vertical alignment of each guide rope in the shaft.

Weight loading in the sump is the commonest form of tensioning guide & rubbing ropes.

By Spring Loading

Helical compression springs made from special alloy steel are used in the overframe anchorage or the bottom spring tension units.

The springs and tensioning rod are corrosion proof and further protected by a telescopic cover bolted to the sump framework.

A chaseblock arrangement minimises fatigue stress on the units by allowing movement in two planes.
