Long Loop cappels have the same basic design and operating principle as the wedge type hoisting cappel. They are lighter in weight and have a lower safe working load than the hoist rope cappels because they are generally used for suspension of guide and rubbing rope tensioning equipment.
The design of the long loop cappel allows the rope to be threaded through the loop so obviating the need to cut ropes to prescribed lengths and the availability of a spare length of rope is in some cases advantageous.
