Suspension Equipment for Balance Ropes - Short Loop Cappels
The standard supply of short loop cappel is as shown in the photograph below and within reason the cappel eye dimensions can be modified to suit any particular requirement.
Standard cappel sizes are for ropes from 26mm (1”) to 57mm (2 1/4”) but cappels for ropes of greater diameter can be supplied. Cappel wedges can also be supplied with grooves to take ropes of smaller diameter than those shown in the table below.
The cappel limbs and bands are made from 1.5% manganese steel to BS 2772: Part 2: 1989, in the hardened and tempered condition. The wedges and four-bolt safety clamps are of mild steel to BS 4360: 1979, Grade 43A in the normalised condition.
All cappels are proof load tested to 2.5 times the safe working load and subjected to magnetic crack detection. Ultrasonic tests can also be carried out if required.
